On April 15th, 2026, Pope Leo XIV arrived in Cameroon for a three-day visit as part of a tour to Africa that also includes Algeria, Angola and Equatorial Guinea. His activities in Cameroon included speeches at the presidential palace in the capital Yaounde, leading Catholic masses, and visits to catholic institutions in three different cities. The Pope’s visit is worth a mention based on the historical and current context of these lands now called Cameroon in relation to his remarks.

The Pope’s message in Cameroon was consistent with his recent prior remarks, a message of peace. He has repeatedly criticized US President Trump, particularly of late regarding the war against Iran by the US and Israel. In response to Trump’s typical style of retaliatory remarks, Pope Leo proclaimed, “I have no fear of the Trump administration.”
