As we celebrate the Charm of AISHAT, I am once again humbled by Nature's embrace. In Kemetic (precolonial Africa) tradition, AISHAT (Isis) is the Great Mother, the Divine Wife of WSR (Ausar/Osiris) and mother of HERU (Horus). Through her courage and devotion, She ensured that our God-Father WSR's legacy lives on through their son, HERU. Even when WSR was in His incomplete form, AISHAT used her divine magic to bring forth a child and guarantee the continuity of life, lineage and purpose. This was all possible because of the Magic of AISHAT.

In our modern times, many people are searching for miracles. We see them moving from church to mosque, from one spiritual retreat to another, each person hoping for a sign, a blessing, or a spectacular event to witness. The leaders of modern religions have mastered a kind of performance turning their temples and sanctuaries into places for emotional theatrics and illusion. What the modern seeker often does not realize is that the true magic they are looking for is already expressing itself, quietly and consistently, through Mother Nature herself.

It humbles me every time I sit and simply observe the natural world. In Nature, everything is expressing itself in a way that serves something beyond itself, just like the Goddess Aishat. When the sun rises, its light provides what is needed for the beings of the day to carry out their work, grow, and thrive. When the moon takes her place in the night sky, she offers the subtle energies required for the creatures of the night to move, feed, and fulfill their roles. Nothing in Nature shines only for itself.

The miracle of growth is all around us. With every turn of the season, we see new effects on every creature. Forms shift and transform: one thing becomes another. A small seed placed in the soil grows into a tree, which in time offers both fruit and shade. The waters of the lakes and rivers become home for the fish and all who depend on them. The rains arrive to quench the thirst of the plants and those plants, in turn, become nourishment for land animals and for us. Even in these same plants and trees, we discover herbs and roots that bring us healing and restore our balance.

When I look closely, I see everything in Nature is offering itself for the becoming of something else. This is how I recognize the touch of Goddess Aishat everywhere around me. Her presence is in the way life supports more life, in the way one form gives itself so that another may emerge. Through this lens, the natural world can be seen as a living temple of Kemetic spirituality, where the magic of Aishat is constantly at work.

As we honor the Charm of Aishat, I am reminded to honor Nature. This same Nature that nourished those who came before me and will continue to nourish those who will come after me. It reminds me to slow down, to pay attention and to give thanks. In Nature, I see the evidence that the Gods have not abandoned us. Even behind the noise we create to distract ourselves from Nature’s wisdom, their care is always consistently there, written in the sunlight, rainfall, seasons, tides, and the quiet persistence of life.

In Nature, I see the Charm of Aishat.
